The Spark

The idea was born in an ordinary conversation at the Dodge YMCA in Brooklyn. Michael Pierre, a corporate lawyer and James McDougal , President of a Sports mentoring program, were reflecting on the excitement of the recent WNBA Championship victory by the New York Liberty . Michael suggested creating lasting images or symbols outside the arena to honor the team’s legacy. James, who had been working closely with Brooklyn basketball Hall of Famers responded: “Why not build a something bigger a permanent place to celebrate both Liberty and Brooklyn’s many Naismith Hall of Famers”

A few days later , that seed of an idea grew into something even larger .  What if Brooklyn had its own Walk of Fame – a place to honor, celebrate and share with the world the icons and legends who shaped our culture across sports, music, science, education, business and the arts.

Inspired by the Walks of Fame in Hollywood, Memphis and The Bronx, the vision was clear – Brooklyn deserved its own landmark that would celebrate its unique legacy and inspire generations to come.

The Momentum

In just a couple of months. The Brooklyn Walk of Fame project connected with the families of two giants: George Gershwin, The legendary composer , and Al Davis, the Brooklyn born owner who led the Raiders to three Super Bowl victories. The embrace of the vision confirmed what the founders believed all along: Brooklyn’s icons deserved a permanent place of honor in the borough they helped shape.

The Mission

The Brooklyn Walk of Fame is more than a landmark- it’s a living tribute.  By honoring the pioneers, legends and cultural trailblazers it will celebrate the borough’s past, inspire its present and shape its future.

The Team

To produce the most authentic Walk of Fame we selected native Brooklynites or long standing residents of the borough to create Brooklyn’s best version of a Walk of Fame.
